Tenkara Tippets

Tenkara is a radically simple fly fishing technique that is reconnecting anglers to the uncluttered experience of nature. Pared down to the essentials, the angler is unburdened by the distractions of excess gear and complicated casting, resulting in a liberating reliance on basic stream craft and observation. Tenkara, most importantly, teaches a return to quiet, patience, and intuition.

The telescoping rod gives it a portability that is perfect for the backpacker or biker, and allows an easy approach to the most hidden of waters. The fly can be cast with almost all the line held off the water, allowing routinely drag-free presentations, opening new possibilities of eddy and seam exploration. The long reach of the ultralight rod makes it easy to fish all day without fatigue, while placing a fly with such grace and accuracy, that even the beginner is guaranteed early success.

My purpose is to present the techniques, presentations, and tips that I think are best, with an unrepentant bias towards simplicity. I’m not going to waste your time. I’m not going to write about my streams, catches, or personal adventures. I’m not concerned with selling you anything. If it is included here, it is because I think it will be helpful and worth learning.

I want to make your day on the stream a little bit easier, a little more productive, and perhaps even a bit transcendent. If more people experience the magic of a perfect day on the stream, inevitably, we will see more clearly the priceless treasures that beg our conservation and restoration.
